Your refrigerator is an essential appliance in your home. It’s where you store your fresh and frozen food, so you’re able to cook meals for your family and friends. A properly functioning refrigerator is a must for any kitchen, and like other appliances, there may be times it’ll need to be fixed.

What are the three most common refrigerator problems?

There are various problems that your refrigerator may have that must be repaired by a professional. Three of the most common ones are: Your refrigerator leaks water, ice buildup on your food, loud noises & continuous running.

Keep reading to see why your refrigerator is leaking water, how you may be able to fix it, and when to call a professional appliance repair service.

Your Refrigerator Leaks Water

If you notice that you often see a puddle of water by your refrigerator, this can indicate a few different things, none of which are good signs. Luckily the two most common causes are quick and easy to fix.

1. A clogged defrost drain is the most common cause of a leaking refrigerator.

This happens due to the debris and food bits that get sucked in the drain, which can lead to a clog. Over time the ice will start building up in the line, and sooner or later, the water will end up on the floor.

The fix is to clear the drain from the inside of the fridge. The first thing we will do is use hot water. If this doesn’t work, we will get a pipe cleaner and try to push out the clog. If neither of these methods doesn’t get the job done, we will manually remove the debris by pulling your refrigerator away from the wall and cleaning the rubber check valve. The valve will be cleaned with warm soapy water and then replaced.

2. A clogged or frozen water supply.

This is the another common reason that will cause water to leak and puddle under your fridge. If you have an ice maker, this may also cause it to stop working.

This is another simple fix. A professional will unplug your appliance and shut off the water supply. They will then inspect the plastic supply line for clogs or leaks. If the line is damaged, we will replace the it. However, if the line looks good, we will allow the ice to melt by leaving the refrigerator unplugged. Once the line is clear, we’ll turn the water back on and plug in your fridge.
